about
Inspired by Dostoyevsky’s novel ‘Notes From The Underground’, this rowdy, cinematic song tells the story of isolation, self-reliance and eventual salvation of Lisa, a young woman trapped in a life of prostitution. Lisa is able to detach herself from the danger and despair of her environment and the challenging presence of a bitter client, thus reshaping the original narrative and becoming the heroine of her own tale.
“Lisa represents unwavering strength of character. She dreams of freedom but is brave enough to wait for the right moment to escape and knows how to navigate the circumstances. She is the ultimate quiet strategist.” - Dead Writers
Showcasing Dead Writers' looser side with gritty guitars, thundering drums and a honky tonk-style piano solo, the track is an explosive, catchy shuffle that oscillates between the dark, the sexy and the downright decadent.

LISA // LYRICS
Lisa, don’t be fooled by the liquor
I’m not here to take your picture
You don’t even have to listen to the dumb things I say
Lisa, I’ll only make love to your silence
I’m sorry I can’t be sweeter
Show me the place in the world that sees you sleep, dear Lisa…
Lisa, twenty years old and stitched up
Everything ‘round her speeds up
Making the bed that she’d burn if she could pay for bread
Oh Lisa, your secret is safe with this madman
I’m drunk as the tower of Pisa
I wasn’t born Julius Caesar but I bet my throne that Lisa
Dances when no one sees her
Lisa, sold to the world in the Russian cold
She’d never blink twice
Lisa lived with so many enigmas unresolved
And the more I’m told, the more I want to tease her
Such a night to remember
Lisa penetrated the stigmas in my soul
From the driving snow her love came to release her
That was Lisa
And I was done
Lisa, never afraid of the darkness
The darkness would never cheat her
Everyone here suffers minor desperation
But for Lisa, it’s all a big indigestion
Always replies with a question
You’re driving me mad
But could I lay any blame on you, my Lisa?
Crying when no one sees her
Lisa, thrown to the wall
In the meanest cold hell’s ever seen now
Lisa lived with so many enigmas unresolved
And the more I’m told, the more I want to tease her
Such a night to remember
Lisa penetrated the stigmas in my soul
From the driving snow her love came to release her
That was Lisa
And I was done
You don’t need permission from the Czar
Get outta here before an illness steals your spark
St. Petersburg is on the line
I think you may have to get on the red telephone
Lisa lived with so many enigmas unresolved
And the more I’m told, the more I want to tease her
Such a night to remember
Lisa penetrated the stigmas in my soul
From the driving snow her love came to release her
That was Lisa
And I was done
